Without our Horses we could not achieve the results we are aiming for. They are a a key element in our therapy sessions. At this point we do not own horses, but have generous horse owners donate their horse's time to our program. A good Therapy Horse is not easy to find. They have to display a calm and friendly demeanour and need to be obedient and responsive, they have to be steady and unphased by loud noises, fast movements and other scary things. A small to medium size horse makes it easier for the sidewalkers and builds confidence in the participants. We try to evaluate every potential therapy horse throuroughly, and only use horses that have the necessary traits - this way we ensure the safety and progress for all our participants and volunteers.
If you want to donate your horse's time to our program, please contact us.
Fawn
I am an 11 year old QH mare. I love a lot of attention and I love to eat. I do not like to walk very fast because I have a back leg that is a little slow. It does not hurt me at all to be ridden, I just look a little different than other horses when I walk. I live with Jaco and Lisa Strydom in Terrace, BC and I share the yard with my very best friend, the Icelandic gelding Vlek.
Charlie
I am new to the program. I am a 14 year old pony and I live on the Eisner farm, together with my buddy Pride. I belong to Irv and Judy’s grandchildren, but they allow me to take part in the therapeutic sessions as well. I am brown with two white feet. I am not allowed any treats, as I have been spoiled with too many and am constantly looking for some more. So. Remember not to put your hands in your pockets – I might think you have treats... neigh!
Frosty
I was donated to the NWTEA and I am now living with Irv and Judy Eisner. I came as a very fuzzy and hairy pony. After lots and lots..... and LOTS ... of brushing, Irv and Judy found a very pretty pony. I am 24 years old. I love walking and playing with my little riders, but because I have very tender feet, I don’t like too much trotting. I love a lot of attention, so if you are close, grab a brush and play with me!
Sylvester
I am a beautiful white pony who was also donated to the NWTEA. I share the field with lots of other horses on Lisa Hamer’s farm. I came as a very energetic pony and it took me a long time to get accustomed to the MWTEA way. But now I know what is expected from me and I enjoy every moment of it.
Blue
I am a registered quarter horse. I am a blue roan, from there my name. I am 5 years old and love to walk and trot. The older riders use me to ride independently. I am a very loveable horse. I love to shake and give the riders lots of giggles.
Miss Fizz (IN MEMORIAM)
The little Miss Fizz had to galopp to greener Pastures in August 2008. She is sadly missed and will never be forgottten. Every child and adult alike smiled and was transformed when they met her. She was the true Queen of the Stable at Ridgewind Farms!
A tumor and other complications cut her life short, but she was allowed to go in dignity when the time came.
WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR KINDNESS AND PATIENCE, LITTLE MISS FIZZ!
Vlek
I am am a 5 year old Icelandic gelding . My registered name is April fra Hestar , but everyone calls me Vlek. It is a South African word for spot, due to the brown spot I have on my flank. I live with Jaco and Lisa Strydom in Terrace, BC. I am very gentle and I love children. I am very inquisitive and I love to smell and nibble everything that is new.
Nokkvi
I am a 19 year old Icelandic gelding. Nokkvi is an Icelandic Word for 'Stoneboat of the Giants'. I live on Moondance Acres in Smithers BC, and for the NWTEA Sessions I am a guest at Ridgewind Farms in Terrace BC. I am patient, strong and love people. I have done a lot of things in my life and have made many people smile. Since 2007 the person that belongs to me is Amber Stewart-Hansen; a lovely 6 year old girl!
